POSITION PURPOSE
Gen7 Youth Leadership is a program of the Tipi Raisers - a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that operates on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation as well as in Colorado and surrounding reservations.
The Tipi Raisers Mission is to be a multi-cultural and cross- generational community who work and play together to alleviate conditions of poverty, honor indigenous wisdom and begin to reconcile the tragic history of the Lakota People on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The Gen 7 Mission is to convene, mobilize and empower Native and non-Native young leaders; building relationships, bridging cultural gaps and providing the tools and resources necessary to bring awareness to pressing issues and make genuine change in the world around them. Gen7’s mission is inextricably tied to that of the Tipi Raisers.
Gen7 has just wrapped up its pilot year and requires a part-time Field Coordinator to plan and facilitate regular gatherings on Pine Ridge and continue to advance Gen7’s standing on Pine Ridge. This position requires regular outreach and contact with the Gen7 Youth Ambassadors – and their families - on Pine Ridge. The Gen7 Field Coordinator is also responsible functioning as an advocate for Gen7 on Pine Ridge and surrounding reservations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITES
Attends tribal meetings, school functions and other community meetings to promote understanding and awareness of Gen7
Works with leadership as a thought partner to continue to evolve and advance Gen7
Works directly with the Youth Ambassadors and Allies on Pine Ridge to create an annual gathering calendar that includes monthly recreational and youth leadership-oriented activities
In cooperation with Director, handles parent communications and relations
In cooperation with Director, arranges and coordinates facilities and transportation logistics for above monthly gatherings as well as off reservation meet ups
Prepares and communicates planned activities and itineraries to supervisor and Ambassadors/Allies
Facilitates all Gen7 meet ups, including those off of Pine Ridge
Co- facilitates, with Director, LakotaRide youth activities and youth council meetings
Works with Director and Gen7 Youth Ambassadors to promote Gen7 and recruit new Allies/Ambassadors on the reservation – and surrounding reservations
Communicates issues of concern involving Ambassadors/Allies to Director and determines communication strategy for their families and/or mentors
Attends trainings in coordination with Director
Attends regularly scheduled weekly meetings with Director
Organizes and maintains file system, documents all outreach and activities
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have passion for the position and the mission of the organization and the Gen7 program
Experience working with adolescents
Lives on or near Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
Great relationship skills and high emotional intelligence
Fostering positive adult and youth culture that welcomes failure and growth mindsets
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion practices
Ability to coordinate complex logistics with multiple parties
Comfortable being resourceful and flexible within a small growing nonprofit organization
Self-directed and motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit
Diligent, well organized and timely
Performs basic computer applications to document outreach and activities and communicate with youth and families
Valid driver’s license with clean record
Must pass a background check
Willingness to travel and transport youth to events spanning a large geographical distance
Reliable transportation is required for this position
EDUCATION
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with at least one year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Hourly rate is competitive and based upon education level, experience, and qualifications
Flexible mix of working from home, travel on Pine Ridge, to surrounding reservations and to Colorado
