POSITION PURPOSE Gen7 Youth Leadership is a program of the Tipi Raisers - a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that operates on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation as well as in Colorado and surrounding reservations.
The Tipi Raisers Mission is to be a multi-cultural and cross- generational community who work and play together to alleviate conditions of poverty, honor indigenous wisdom and begin to reconcile the tragic history of the Lakota People on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The Gen 7 Mission is to convene, mobilize and empower Native and non-Native young leaders; building relationships, bridging cultural gaps and providing the tools and resources necessary to bring awareness to pressing issues and make genuine change in the world around them. Gen7’s mission is inextricably tied to that of the Tipi Raisers.
Gen7 has just wrapped up its pilot year and requires a part-time director to continue to implement, develop, evaluate and oversee programming. The Gen7 Program Director is responsible for advancing the Gen7 program through outreach and fundraising, establishing policies and systems as well as working closely with and supervising the Gen7 Field Coordinator and interns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with leadership team as a thought partner to continue to evolve and advance Gen7
Creates and implements new policies and programming elements with leadership team
Supervises Field Coordinator who works directly with the Youth Ambassadors and Allies on Pine Ridge to facilitate monthly recreational and youth leadership-oriented activities
In cooperation with Field Coordinator, handles parent communications and relations
In cooperation with Field Coordinator arranges and coordinates facilities and transportation logistics for monthly gatherings on Pine Ridge, as well as off reservation meet ups
Co-facilitates, with Field Coordinator, majority of Gen7 meet ups, both on and off Pine Ridge
Co- facilitates, with Field Coordinator, LakotaRide youth activities and youth council meetings
Provides supervision to interns, to include; weekly check ins, provide feedback around work performance and assist with next steps
Works with Field Coordinator and Gen7 Youth Ambassadors to promote Gen7 and recruit new Youth Ambassadors and/or Allies on Pine Ridge – and surrounding reservations
Oversees mentor/mentee program to include creating mentor manual and orientation, screening and recruiting mentors, providing proper onboarding and evaluating mentor/mentee relationships
Researches and networks with potential partner organizations and programs and/or curriculums
Attends trainings in coordination with leadership team
Convenes regularly scheduled weekly meetings/supervision with Field Coordinator
Attends regularly scheduled weekly meetings with leadership team
Evaluates and reports on efficacy of program
Organizes and maintains file system, documents outreach and work products
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have passion for the position and the mission of the organization and the Gen7 program
Experience working with adolescents
Great relationship skills and high emotional intelligence
Fostering positive adult and youth culture that welcomes failure and growth mindsets
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion practices
Experience working in an administrative position
Ability to coordinate with multiple parties, design projects and oversee project implementation
Excellent organization and project management skills
Demonstrated writing and editing skills
Comfortable being resourceful and flexible within a small growing nonprofit organization
Self-directed and motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit
Performs basic computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets
Valid driver’s license with clean record
Must pass a background check
Willingness to travel and transport youth to events spanning a large geographical distance
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Will consider a High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with at least one year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
